Statement Earrings | How to Make Fan Tassel Flower Earrings

Have you ever bought something only to realize that it wasn’t the size/color you thought it was going to be?  That is exactly what happened when I ordered these fan tassel flower earring findings.  I thought they would make the most amazing statement earrings.  Unfortunately, they turned out to be a lot smaller than I thought. I was annoyed at myself for reading the fine print, but I really liked them so I thought I could find a way to make them work.  You know what they say, “when life gives you lemons make vodka lemonade.”

This isn’t the first time I have done this.  If fact it has happens more often than I would like to admit.  A few years ago a really wanted one of those acrylic chairs for my desk. At the time, they were very trendy and expensive.  I found one on a random website for $27, and I thought, “I am getting the deal of the century!”  So, I ordered it.  Turns out the chair was for a doll house.  Yep, I ordered myself a $27 doll house chair, and of course, I was not able to return it.  My husband laughed so hard…for weeks.  He calls it my chair of shame.

Anyway, these fan tassel flower earrings are amazing and I am thrilled with how they turned out.  I knew I wanted to make some sort of drop earring with these.  Thankfully when I ordered them I ordered the ten-pack thinking maybe I would make extras for holiday gifts.  That plan went out the window when I saw how small they were.  Then I realized I could use 4 of the fan tassels per earring to get the “statement” look I was going for.

Here is the tutorial for how two make these fun earrings.  If you like these you can also check out my other statement earring tutorial here.  If you decide to make any of these earrings please let me know in the comments below.  I would love to see them!

Glue ear studs to the back of the gold flat back beads and let dry overnight.

Using a small jump ring, attach a short piece of chain – I used 3 links, but feel free to make yours longer.

Take your eye pin and slide it through the hole in the 16mm gold round bead. Again, feel free to use whatever size bead you like. I like big statement earrings so mine are on the larger side.

Take another small jump ring and using your flat nose pliers attach the gold bead to the ear stud.

With the same length of chain you used on the top of the bead, attach it using another small jump ring to the bottom of the gold bead.

Using a medium jump ring attach 4 flower findings on the ring.  Attach it to the end of the chain and close the loop.

Follow step 1 above using the black flat back bead and ear stud. I glued the ear stud higher on the back of this bead because it was so large.
