I will admit I am on a bit of a linen bender this summer. For a long time, I thought linen wasn’t for me. It wrinkles too easily, which makes it look kind of sloppy. In case you don’t know me very well, I will let you in on a dirty little secret…I hate wrinkled clothes. It’s one of my biggest pet peeves. However, I am willing to give linen a hall pass on this one. Sometimes a few wrinkles make a garment look a little more comfortable, a little more lived-in, and a little more relaxed. A perfect example is this green linen dress. Stylish enough to wear to dinner but casual enough for a run to the grocery store.

This lovely Kelly green linen came from Fabric Wholesale Direct. It’s my go-to for linen. It comes in 31 colors, just like Baskin-Robbins (IYKYK). I buy the Yorkshire 6.7 oz Natural 100% Linen. They have other options, and I also buy the Lino Italiano Polyester Viscose Linen. It comes in multiple colors like the Yorkshire, but it’s not as dense. For most of the linen dresses I make, I use the Yorkshire, including this green linen dress, but try them both and see what you think.
Patterns
The green linen dress is a mash-up of two different patterns. The skirt is New Look 6193, and I added 9 inches to the skirt before adding the flounce. The bodice is vintage Butterick 5106. The flounce is self-drafted and is 9″ long, including seam allowances.
This green linen dress has a simple silhouette. Any A-line skirt and V-neck bodice patterns will give you a similar result.
