It seems I cannot get enough of all things London. While researching this month’s Roxbury Edit, which is devoted entirely to London, I came across this gorgeous Liberty of London fabric. There were just four yards left of this Passion Flower silk charmeuse, which, of course, meant I immediately purchased it.
Liberty fabric can sometimes feel a little precious, with all those florals and prints that tend to lean toward warmer weather. This one, though, shouts fall in the best possible way. There is a lot of color happening here, but somehow it all works. Rich pinks, rust, olive, gold and deeper tones give it that perfect early-fall feeling without looking dark or drab. It is exactly the kind of fabric I want to wear in September.

Liberty of London fabrics have been around for a very long time. Founded in London in 1875 by Arthur Lasenby Liberty, Liberty began as a small shop selling textiles and decorative goods and eventually grew into one of Britain’s most iconic department stores, known for its distinctive prints, beautiful fabrics and unmistakable sense of design.
And really, who wouldn’t want a little piece of London hanging in their closet?
I haven’t been able to find any more of this exact Passion Flower silk charmeuse, but I did find a few other gorgeous options here, here, here and here.
Fair warning: Liberty fabric can be very spendy. But this is one of those times when the fabric really does feel worth the splurge.
Pattern
For the dress itself, I went back to my favorite V-neck bodice, McCall’s 7602. You can see a couple of its previous lives here and here. I never seem to get tired of this bodice, no matter how many times I make it.
For the skirt, I paired it with McCall’s 7355. This is the first time I’ve made this pattern, even though it has been sitting in my pattern stash for quite a while. It is a fairly simple skirt with lots, and I mean lots, of gathers.
Lots of gathers combined with silk charmeuse means lots of swishing. And lots of swishing means lots of drama, which I fully support, but only when it comes to my clothes.

The fabric does most of the work with this outfit, so I kept everything else fairly simple.

final Thoughts
This dress feels like the perfect little bridge between summer and fall. Still colorful and light, but with richer tones that make it feel spot on for September. I love that the Liberty print has so much going on, yet the finished dress still feels easy and wearable.
Between the London connection, the beautiful silk and all that swish, this dress is something extra. A little piece of London, now hanging in my closet.
