DIY Plaid Pleated Skirt

DIY Plaid Pleated Skirt With Pockets // Bring On the Pleats Please!

Today I’m sharing this diy plaid pleated skirt I made a few months ago. I have decided that pleats are my new favorite technique to use when sewing skirts and dresses. It’s safe to say that the last two years ruffles were my goto. I put them on just about everything I made. Don’t get me wrong I’ll still sew ruffles, however, this summer it’s going to be all about the pleats! This diy plaid pleated skirt is my new favorite silhouette, so you will be seeing a lot of pleats in the next few months!

I purchased the fabric on Etsy, and the pattern is Butterick 6285. I used this pattern before when I made my favorite palm print skirt. This time around I added 8 inches to the length. Good news is that I love the way it turned out, BUT I used a lot fabric. Almost 5 yards! I’m okay with that, because it’s fun and twirls really well. However, the best thing about this skirt is the pockets! Yes pockets!..I have added pockets to the last few skirts I’ve made and it’s a game changer!

Styling

I paired it with a white long sleeve sweater and a pair of red suede shoes I have had forever. My favorite part of the outfit is the bag. I made it using another pattern I bought on Etsy. I’ll write a separate post just on the bag. I’ve made a few, and I really like how they have turned out!
