Green Seersucker Skirt

Green Seersucker Skirt // The Best Skirt Pattern Ever!

I hate shorts. I own a few pair, but I never really wear them. To me they are uncomfortable and unflattering. My legs are short, so IMO they just don’t work on me. It gets pretty hot here in during the summer, so I wanted something easy to just throw on and go. I love a good maxi dress or maxi skirt, but I always end up tripping on them or getting them caught in my car door. My solution was this green seersucker mini skirt.

So far I have made three versions of the skirt. This green seersucker skirt, a navy blue gingham one, and a red, white and navy floral one. I’ll share the other two later, but this is the first one I made.

Pattern – Green Seersucker Skirt

For this skirt I used Mccalls 8097 view A. Instead of making it a tiered ruffle, by sewing the top ruffle to the outside of the skirt, I decided to make a regular ruffle and sew it right sides together.

It is a very easy pattern and sews up fast, like a few episodes of The Big Bang fast. It also has an elastic waist which makes is super comfortable. Let’s be honest who wants a to wear anything that’s tight around your waist and rides up your butt on a hot, humid day? Yes, that’s right I’m looking at you uncomfortable shorts!

I made view B of this pattern for this dress except, I put a zipper in so I could attach a bodice. It’s maybe not as comfortable as this skirt, but it’s still better and cuter than shorts!

When I first laid out the fabric to cut it, I couldn’t decide which way the stripes should go. Vertical or horizontal? I thought for sure there was only one way the are supposed to go. However, after searching online I noticed that clothing is made with the stripes running both ways so I just picked one and went with it.

I can’t say enough good things about this pattern. It’s definitely one of my top three favorite skirt patterns along with Simplicity 1200, and New Look 6193. Unfortunately, both are out of print, but you can usually find them on Etsy or Amazon.

Fabric – Green Seersucker Skirt

I bought the fabric at Joanns, but you can find seersucker fabric just about anywhere. Right now in my stash I have red, turquoise, gray and blue sseersucker, so it’s very easy to find, and it’s usually inexpensive.

Styling – Green Seersucker Skirt

A skirt like this is very easy to style, a white t shirt and flip flops are all you really need. I dressed it up slightly by adding some pam leaf slides and a jean jacket. I had the jacket on for all of 5 minutes because it was about 90 degrees out the day I took these photos. As you can see by this photo below I was dying because it was so hot out!

I’ll be sharing posts about the other skirts as well so stay tuned for that.

Thanks for reading! Hope you’re having a good week!
