Before and After Caftan Refashion

I love a good before and after don’t you? I’m always so impressed with how different something can look. Whether it’s a home renovation, a beauty makeover or simply painting something a different color.  It’s amazing to see how something or someone can transform.

Every year in May I head to Palm Springs with three of the girlfriends. I wrote about the trip here. This year my sweet friend Anne from Olive & Poppy gave me this amazing Pucci style caftan. She knows me and our girlfriends very well. She hand picked a caftan for each of us that matched our style and personality perfectly.  I love it. The colors and pattern are amazing, and it’s so comfortable! However, I’m short only 5’4″ and the caftan was long on me. I figured a little refashion would make it just right. Keep reading to learn how I changed it up.

Here is the before:

Like I said I loved everything about this caftan. For me it just needed it to be a little shorter, and while I was at it I thought I’d throw in a ruffle just for fun.

Here is the after:

This was a very easy refashion. Here is what I did.

  • I cut 8 inches off the bottom.
  • Then I cut the cut the fabric to make it one long flat piece.
  • Next I cut down the center lengthwise. That gave me two long pieces that were each 4 inches wide.
  • I sewed 2 of the short ends together to make one long piece, then hemed the bottom edge of the fabric.
  • I gathered the fabric by sewing a basting stitch along the top edge and pulled the threads to make the ruffle.
  • Lastly I stitched the ruffle together to make a circle and sewed it to the new shortened hem of the caftan.

That’s it! Nothing too complicated. I love how it turned out. A few simple tweeks and it’s just the right length with a little extra somthin’ somthin’.

I’m going to dig through my closet this week and see what else I can find to refashion.

You can shop similar looks here, here (this print is amazing!), These tulips are beautiful, This one is my favorite!

Thanks for reading. Have a great week!
