DIY Monogrammed Mark & Graham Canvas Cosmetics Bag

When you were a kid was your mom the type of mom who put your name on everything? My mom wasn’t really one of those mom’s. Maybe that’s why I was always losing my stuff as a kid. I’m not judging you mom, but I probably could have benefited from having my name scrawled all over everything I owned. Then maybe I wouldn’t have lost so many retainers. I however, have become one of those moms. Everything my kids own has a label on it, and you know what? They still lose their stuff #somanylostwaterbottes. Perhaps my mom was on to something. Why bother with the label it’s just going to get lost anyway.

Enter the monogram. I am big fan of anything monogrammed. Clothes, bags, shoes whatever, I love it all. Monograms are great. It’s the adult way to label your stuff to be sure you don’t lose it. When I came across this Mark & Graham canvas cosmetics bag it was love at first sight. Not only does combine two of my favorite colors, navy and white, it’s also monogrammed!

I knew this would be an easy DIY and luckily I have a place near me that does monogramming. So for now I don’t need to buy my own embroidery sewing machine, but let’s be honest, it’s going to happen soon. See below the instructions to create your own DIY monogrammed Mark & Graham canvas cosmetics bag.

Materials:

  • Half yard of outer fabric
  • Half yard lining fabric
  • Half yard light weight interfacing
  • 14″ matching zipper – I used a metal one but you can use plastic.
  • 2″ wide monogrammed piece of leather

Steps:

  1. Cut all your fabric and interfacing 14″x10″ with 2″x2″ square cut out on the bottom corners. Following the directions apply interfacing to the wrong side of the lining fabric.
  2. Sew monogram leather strip to one side of the outer fabric.
  3. With right sides together, sandwich the zipper, with the zipper pull facing down, between a piece of outer fabric and a piece of lining.  Sew using a zipper foot. Repeat the same steps with the other two pieces of fabric. When finished be sure to leave the zipper open.
  4. Fold the bag so both outer fabric pieces are facing with right sides together, being sure to fold the zipper towards the lining. Sew around all three sides. Do the same with the lining leaving a 3″ hole in the bottom.DIY monogrammed Mark & Graham canvas cosmetics bag
  5. Pinch the bottom corners together and stitch, for both the lining and outer fabric.
  6. The corners should look like this.
  7. Flip the bag right side out and pull it through the hole in the bottom of the lining.
  8. Stitch the bottom opening closed.Canvas Cosmetics Bag
