DIY Vintage Hawaiian Dress

DIY Vintage Hawaiian Dress // I Call This the Happy Dress!

This DIY vintage Hawaiian dress makes me very happy! I mean the colors alone are enough to put anyone in a good mood. It also helped that the day I took these photos happened to be a beautiful sunny day. This is definitely my summer happy dress.

DIY Vintage Hawaiian Dress Fabric

I recently discovered a new to me fabric store called Hawaiianfabric.com. It has the BEST colorful summer fabric you could want. I am embarrassed to say that I ordered A LOT of fabric from them. However, it is so reasonably priced that I couldn’t help myself. I mean for $5.00 /yard you can beat the price.

They have a brick & mortar store in Honolulu, and I am trying to convince my husband that we need to take a trip and maybe stop by the store? #anythingispossible 🙂

DIY Vintage Hawaiian Dress Pattern

I scooped up this vintage butterick pattern on Etsy and new it would be perfect for this fabric. It’s a pretty straight forward pattern. I only made two adjustments to the bodice. I lowered the armholes and adjusted the neckline. It gaped just a little, but it was an easy fix. The pattern is from 1968 and it described as a one piece high waisted sleeveless evening dress with or with out pockets. I of course added the pockets like I did on this dress and all the other dresses I have made so far this summer.

If I’m being honest I have scooped up a lot of vintage summer dress patterns on Etsy this summer. I think I have to delete the app from my phone to stop me from looking. I always tell myself I’ll just look and see what’s new. Then before you know it I’ve got 5 patterns in my cart ready to check out. Oh well… not to be too hard on myself. There are other worse things I could be addicted to.

Styling

The dress definitely has a beach vibe to it so I styled it accordingly. Unfortunately I wasn’t at the beach, but I wore my very favorite Do Not Disturb straw beach hat (similar here) and these amazing straw slides. I purchased the slides from this shop on Etsy. They are handmade in France and are fabulous. They run true to size and are very comfortable, and arrived in about two weeks.

I carried this straw bag from Amazon and wore these awesome colorful wine barrel bracelets from my friend’s store Olive & Poppy. They make the most amazing wine county themed gifts. If you need something for the wine lover in your life you should absolutely check them out.

Thanks for reading. I hope you are having a great week!
