How to make a Botanical Print Skirt – When Life Gives You Lemons

August is here and I’m not happy about it. That means September is right around the corner and I haven’t made half of the summer clothes I wanted to make, and while I have a bunch of things on my Fall/Winter sewing list I’m just not ready to commit to wool and velvet just yet.

Okay enough of that lets focus on the here and now. Today I’m going to show you how to make this cute botanical print skirt.

You know the old saying when life gives you lemons…etc. Well this fabric was definitely a pile of lemons (pardon the pun) after I got my hands on it. It started out as a shirred dress and it didn’t go so well. There were puffy sleeves and well, it just didn’t work. So, I set it aside for about a year. Then this summer when I made my 4th of July skirt I was looking at the lemons and realizing had just enough fabric to make two of the same skirt (minus one row of ruffles) I made the ruffle last summer so all I needed to do was cut out the skirt.

Two For the Price of One – Making the Skirt

I cut out both of the skirts together so it too no time at all to sew these two skirts up. I used Mccalls 3038 skirt pattern and added a ruffle. I have used this pattern many times in the past. You can read my other posts here, here, and here. It’s a great pattern that is easy to modify and the end result always turns out great. It’s a simple easy skirt to throw on when I’m out running errands!

How to Style a Botanical Print Skirt

I styled this with a white camisole some neutral trap shoes and denim jacket. You could also throw on a t-shirt and sneakers to make it a little more casual.
