How to Make a Pom Pom Fringe Scarf | Getting Read for Fall

How to Make a Pom Pom Fringe Scarf | Getting Ready for Fall

Summer is coming to an end very FAST.  I know, I have been grumbling about it a lot here on the blog lately, but I can’t help it.  It’s my favorite season.  Everything is just so much easier in the summer.  The weather, the food, the fashion, it’s just so uncomplicated.  Need to make dinner?  Just throw something on the grill.  Going out? All you need is a t-shirt and a pair of shorts.  No coats, hats, gloves or boots needed.  Nothing is more aggravating than having to put on all your cold weather gear just to walk the dog.  And don’t get me started on shoveling snow…

Also, people just seem to be in a better mood during the summer, at least here on the east coast.  East coasters take full advantage of this time of year.  From the time school lets out to the end of August, it’s game on!  We take our warm weather very seriously here and plan accordingly.  Most people plan their summer vacations months in advance and look forward to them all year.

It’s not the same on the west coast.  I lived in San Francisco for 7 years and realized that people out there don’t get very excited for summer.  They don’t need to.  The weather is so mild most of the time that you take it for granted.  I definitely did, but didn’t realize it until my husband and I moved back east.  Our first winter back was rough.  I remember him looking at me as the snow started to pile up outside and saying “What are we doing?”

The weather is starting to cool down and Fall is coming. I know I have to get on board with it. I do enjoy sweater weather, but it’s what comes after Fall that makes me cringe. In an effort cheer myself up I made this cute, easy and fast pom pom scarf. It’s light enough to wear this time of year, but still adds a little bit of warmth if you need it.  It can also double as a picnic blanket.  Want to learn how to make a pom pom fringe scarf of your own? Check out the details below.

This DIY couldn’t be any easier. It’s literally a rectangular piece of fabric and two different sizes of pom pom fringe.

Materials

One piece of fabric – I used cotton but almost any lightweight fabric will work. Mine is 42″ x 68″, but you can make it any size you like. I bought mine at Joann Fabrics.

Mini pom pom fringe – I ordered mine here

Large pom pom fringe – I ordered mine here

Instructions

Finish the edges of the fabric – fold up 1/4 ” twice and sew all the way around.  If using a sheer fabric, a rolled hem stitch will work best.

Pin the small pom pom fringe to the right side of your fabric and sew it all the way around.

Pin the large pom pom fringe to the wrong side of your fabric and sew it all the way around.

*You could also sew the small pom pom fringe to the large pom pom fringe and then pin and sew it to the wrong side of the fabric.  I realized this after I sewed my scarf.  In theory, I think it would be easier but I haven’t tried it yet.  If you do send me and email or a comment below and let me know how it turned out.
