Pink and Red Lipstick Skirt

Pink and Red Lipstick Skirt and Attempting to Stay Sane

So my kids’ school is officially closing today, Monday the 16th for two weeks.  Upon hearing this, I immediately went to the store.  And by this, I am of course talking about the liquor store.  I’m sure a lot of you are in similar situations.  Let’s all be sure we take a deep breath, try not to let the panic take over and stay sane.

So, instead of focusing our attention on all the not so good things that are happening, let’s talk about this very fun diy pink and red lipstick skirt!

Pink and Red Lipstick Skirt Fabric & Pattern

This was supposed to be my Valentine’s Day post but here we are almost a month later. Better late than never.  I absolutely LOVE this print on this skirt.  I saw this at Joann and couldn’t resist.

About three years ago I saw a similar print to this online and loved it.  I couldn’t find any fabric like it at the time so I decided to make it myself.  I bought some white cotton material a rubber lip stamp and some pink and red paint.

The end result was a cute vinyl lined make-up bag.  However, the process was a total pain in the ass.  I wouldn’t recommend it, and I definitely won’t do it again.

I used New Look 6193 for the skirt and added the flounce just I as I did here.  I love how different each of the skirts look even though it’s the same pattern.  It’s all about the fabric you use!

Styling the Pink and Red Lipstick Skirt

I pulled out this hot pink trench coat that I have had since the early 2000’s.  I remember exactly where I bought it. It’s from the Benetton store in Sausalito, CA.  Do you guys remember Benetton?  It was such a huge brand when I was younger.  Not sure if you remember, but they used to have very controversial ads in the 90’s.  Their Art Director, Oliviero Toscani, was fired in 2001 because of it, and after 16 years, was rehired by the brand.  You can read about it here in Vogue.

I get more wear out of it than I ever thought I would considering how bright it is, but every time I wear it, I get a million compliments.

I wore a white bodysuit that I bought from Amazon.  I was never a big fan of bodysuits. They never seemed to fit right and I always had a wedgie, but this one is a keeper.  I feel like bodysuits are making a comeback. At least I am willing to give them a try again. I bought this Vogue pattern recently and am going to see if I can make one.  I’ll keep you posted on how it goes.

Accessories

The shoes I have also had forever.  I bought them at Banana Republic around the same time I bought the coat.

The belt, however, is a newer purchase.  Have you seen these Cult Gaia belts?  I think the wicker ones are very cool, but they are very spendy for a belt.  I found the one I’m wearing at Mango last summer.  The only size they had left was a large to so I needed to shorten it, but I think it looks great with the outfit.

Last but not least I am carrying the gold Roxbury Place clutch.  You can shop it here.

Thanks for reading.  I hope you week is off to a good start.  I will be at home with my kids trying my best not to go crazy.  It’s a good thing I have A LOT of wine.

Be safe!
