Silver Sequin Statement Skirt

Silver Sequin Statement Skirt – Say That Three Times Fast!

Happy 2020! I can’t believe that it’s already January 10th. December sort of few by in a holiday blur, and I’m okay with that. Not sure how you feel, but I am definitely ready for a fresh start. So…I meant to publish this before New Years. This silver sequin statement skirt – say that three times fast! seems to have a holiday outfit kid of feel to me. What do you you think? It’s something about the sequins makes it feel holiday-esque.

This silver sequin statement skirt is a very fun to wear. It’s very twirly and I love a twirly skirt. It’s also navy blue which is my absolute favorite color.  I professed my love for navy in one of my very first blog posts.  It’s a very versatile color and goes with just about anything.  Combine my favorite color with some silver sequins and I’m in hea-ven!

I bought this fabric in December of last year at Joanns.  I just couldn’t pass it up. Since it was December I knew I wouldn’t get a chance to do anything with it until this holiday.  So here we are a year later with a new extra twirly silver sequin statement skirt!

I love how the skirt turned out. Give me a full statement skirt with a ruffle and I am a happy girl!  Not to mention that sewing sequins wasn’t nearly as hard as it was the last time.  I chalk this up to the fact that they were smaller and more spread out.

I used New Look 6193.  This is actually one of the first patterns I bought when I first started taking sewing lessons.  It’s a simple a line skirt that can easily be modified.

I extended the length a little and added a flounce.  I wanted it to be midi length with a 12 inch wide flounce so I didn’t need to lengthen the skirt that much.  I’m also on the short side, so I had to factor that into the overall length.

I ended up removing the flounce from this skirt and making a pattern.  Confession: I haven’t gotten around to re-attaching the flounce, but it will get done…eventually.

So what do you wear with a navy and silver sequin skirt?  A silver sequin top!  I think it might be hard to tell from the pictures but the sequins on this top match the sequins in the skirt perfectly.  The top looks a little darker that the sequins on the skirt because the lining is grey, but I think I looks great together, AND, I found it Amazon of all places. #iloveamazon

The top needs a minor adjustment. The straps need to be shortened otherwise it is very low cut.  Since I was just posing for photos it was fine, but IRL the possibility of a wardrobe malfunction is very HIGH.

I’ll probably get around to altering it when I re-attach the flounce to the pink and gold skirt…

I have taken a hiatus from sewing clothes and the blog to work on my ETSY shop.  Then I began getting busy with holiday orders.  If you are interested in this cute little red or navy clutch seen below or maybe one in another color you can check them out here.

I have to say, it feels really good writing and sewing again.  I didn’t realize how much I much I missed it until I started doing it again.

Stay tuned…I’m going to try and get the other two skirts posted soon!

Thanks for reading.
