A Ruffled Skirt…Again // Can’t Stop With All the Ruffles

I know, I know….a ruffled skirt…again. I just can’t help myself. I’m sure you’ve all heard the expression “if you find something you like buy it in every color”. Well theses ruffled skirts are what I really like so I am making them in every color I can.

These short ruffled skirts have become my wardrobe go to for the summer. Due to my aversion to shorts they are the easiest thing to throw on and feel comfortable, and look somewhat put together. I don’t know about you all, but I spent most of March, April & May looking like a hot mess, so it feels good to look like a human again.

Pattern

A Ruffled Skirt…Again

This pattern is the absolute best! It’s like the fourth or fifth time I have made it this summer and I have no intentions of stopping. It’s McCalls 8097. I have already used it here. It sews up very fast and the best part is that it has an elastic waistband! Talk about comfortable.

Mccalls Pattern Company has gone through a rebranding this year and I am really loving all of the new pattern styles. This one especially!

Fabric

A Ruffled Skirt…Again

I have had this fabric for a few years and I love it! I bought it from Mood, and purchased like 4 or 5 yards in the NYC store. The abstract print and colors are what caught my eye. I also love the fact that it is stretch cotton. So looks and feels like cotton, but has a little bit of stretch to it for when you’ve had too much to eat!

I have seriously made a million things with this fabric. This bag is one of them. I even created a tutorial on how to make it. It was one of the first posts I created for the blog. I know it’s a little overwhelming with both the skirt and the bag, but I sort of forgot I had it, and when I came across it I thought it would be fun to pair them together.

I have some fabric left and I would l really like to make a pair of fitted capri pants, if I can find the right pattern. Fingers crossed I find it before summer’s over. Otherwise it will have to wait until next year.

Styling

Not sure if you can tell but the colors of the skirt/bag are red, white and navy. Three of my favorite colors to wear, but you need to be careful because sometimes if you end up looking like the 4th of July threw up all over you.

The fact that the fabric has an abstract print makes it feel more modern. I wore my favorite red strappy wedges that I bought at Banana Republic a million years ago, and a navy blue boat neck t-shirt I bought a few years ago from J. Crew.

The earrings are Rebecca de Ravenel. They are called Les Bon Bons and are one of my favorite pairs. She has a lot of very fun, bright earrings and the best thing about them is that they are super light. It feels like they are made out of ping pong balls or something. So don’t let the fact that they look big scar you off. The are not heavy at all. While they are definitely an investment, you can usually find some good end of season sales. I managed to find mine on sale and ordered them as an anniversary present from my hubby.

As always thanks for reading. I hope you are having a good week.
