Kate Spade Dress – A Bright Fun Floral Summer Frock

This Kate Spade dress is one of the many things I have made out of Kate Spade fabric. Now as far as I know you can’t buy Kate Spade fabric. However, you CAN by Kate Spade tablecloths and make your own clothes. And this my friends is exactly what I did to make this fun floral summer frock!

This is not the first time I have done this. You can check out all of my Kate Spade fabric related posts here, here and here. I have also sewed this same floral fabric before on this skirt and bag.

Needless to say my love of Kate Spade textiles run deep…really, really deep.

Fabric – Kate Spade Dress

This dress was very fun to make. I’m sure it has everything to do with the vibrant fun colors of the fabric. It just makes me really happy. Kate Spade also made version of this in purple that I of course I scooped the minute I saw it on Amazon. Which, by the way is where I buy most of my Kate Spade tablecloths. I have found some at Bed Bath and Beyond, but Amazon has the best selection.

Pattern – Kate Spade Dress

I created the dress using two different patterns. The bodice is McCalls 7752. The cool think about this pattern is that you mix and match the pattern pieces to create whatever top you want. If you look at the pattern photo I made the top left bodice minus the ruffles.

The bodice pattern was part of my lean to make a bodice project. I decided at the beginning of the summer I was going to learn how to make a bodice that actually fit me. This is the third one I made and the one that fits the best so far.

The pattern was a little tricky owing to the fact that there are a lot of pattern piece, and I sewed them together upside down the first time I tried to make it. SO, there was definity some seam ripping involved when I made this top. However, the extra time was worth it, because I really like the way it turned out.

The skirt is one of my favorites New Look 6193. I used to make my yellow cabana stripe dress. The only difference between the skirts is that I used a self drafted ruffle for the stripe dress and a flounce for this one. I also didn’t intend to use the New Look pattern when I started to make this dress. Actually, I was looking for a self drafted skirt pattern I created when I altered this skirt. The new look pattern is shorter not as dramatic as this one. This skirt and this skirt were both made using the self drafted pattern, and I love the fullness of the look.

I didn’t realize I cut the wrong pattern until after I sewed the dress together and put it on. I almost scrapped it so I could use the other skirt pattern, but I decided I didn’t want to do the extra work. It sounds silly and you may not even be able to tell the difference, but sometimes when I get an idea in my its hard for me to change gears. However, I’m so glad I did make the other skirt because I really love how this one turned out.

Styling – Kate Spade Dress

So like a lot of the other summer dresses I have made so far this year, this one is pretty bold. So I didn’t add a whole lot of extras to it. Just a straw clutch from J. Crew and some fun flamingo earrings from Baublebar. They always have the cutest seasonal earrings. Now, can we just stop for a minute and talk about these shoes!?!?!?!?

I bought these shoes at Anthropologie two or three summers ago and have never worn them. #sadface. When I first saw them they were well over $200, and I really couldn’t justify buying them. I knew I probably wouldn’t wear them a lot and it just seemed to silly to buy them. So, I lusted after them for a while and then moved on.

However, a few months later I walked into Anthro and sure enough there they were on the sale rack. There was only one pair and they were my size! The best part was that they were $20! Yes that right I said $20! I of course immediately scooped them up and took them home. So even though this is the first time I have worn them that fact that they were only $20 doesn’t bother me.

Thanks for reading. Hope you are having a great week!
