DIY Blue & Yellow Skirt // The Last of the Kate SpadeTablecloth Skirts

Well here we are…it’s almost Thanksgiving and I am still posting Summer skirts. Forgive me for being MIA so much this Fall. I have a lot of contact planned for the Fall and Winter but because of the craziness that is 2020 it just happening slower than I anticipated. So here I am wrapping up my late summer sewing projects with this DIY blue & yellow skirt. This is one of my favorite projects! I’m sure I say this all the time but I really love this print. Yes it is another Kate Spade tabletcloth and the color combo is one of my favorites.

Fabric

I’m not a huge family fan of yellow on its own but I love the way it looks paired with the navy. I bought this tablecloth a few years ago and made a bunch of clutches. You read the clutch tutorial here. This summer I decided I wanted to make a skirt out of it only to realize I didn’t have enough fabric. so off to Internet I went in search of more tablecloths. I have mentioned this before but I n normally find the tablecloths on Amazon, but this on proved to be a bit trickier to find. I finally found it on Ebay and at the time is was they only one available.

Pattern

You have seen the silhouette of this skirt here before. What can I say I am a creature of habit and I know what I like and what looks good on me. I used my New Look pattern 6193 with a self drafted flounce. Yes, I have made about about 10 skirts with this pattern and I am sure there will be more. You can see some here and here. However, this skirt started with a gathered waist and a very full skirt. I was going for a look like this, but my version did quite look the way I wanted it to. Not sure what went wrong but it just didn’t work. I think mine needed to be longer but I didn’t have enough fabric. I’ll keep trying because it’s a very cute look and we’ll see happens.

Styling

I styled it with a navy camisole from Amazon and a navy cardigan from J Crew. I always try to keep the top part of an outfit simple if the bottom has a bold print and vice versa. Also how cute is this bag? I bought it from Ann Taylor last winter. It’s velvet in case you can’t tell, and the shoes are old and I bought them from Nordstrom.

I have a few more late summer posts to get out and then its on the fun winter stuff!

Thanks for reading. I hope you all have a great Thanksgiving!
